Unit Secretary




Patient Services Support






Education: Graduate from high school or equivalent (GED). Possess basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Experience: Previous experience in medical/healthcare setting preferred. Formal training in cardiac monitoring is provided with examination in basic cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation.

Certifications: BLS certification (to be obtained within the first year of employment).

Other Skills: Strong interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written) and effective organizational skills are necessary. Activities and decisions are varied in nature and require independent action and judgment in making decisions. Most activities involved high levels of concentration and mental attention. Must work successfully with professionals from all healthcare disciplines, students, and the public. Computer skills required.

Position Overview

The role of the unit secretary is to provide clerical services for effective and efficient operation of the nursing unit. This clerical service is performed under the leadership of the Patient Services Coordinator with on the job direction from the Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse of the assigned unit. The unit secretary performs their role in a professional supportive manner that exhibits enhancement and contributes to the quality of nursing care of the patient and family and in support of St. Claire Medical Center’s mission.
