The first day of the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network annual meeting was held on St. Claire Regional's (SCR) campus at the Center for Health, Education and Research Wednesday, April 20. Every year since the formal UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network was developed in 2006 an annual meeting has taken place at Markey Cancer Center to educate affiliates about new programs, resources, scientific cancer findings and new clinical trial studies.
"SCR is honored to be the first offsite affiliate hosting location for the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network meeting," says Mark J. Neff, SCR president/CEO. "The new Center for Health, Education and Research is a huge asset for SCR as it not only houses our state-of-the-art family medicine clinic but provides us a unique environment for hosting large educational trainings."
Welcome and introductions at the meeting were given by Neff, Dr. Kim Williams, SCR vice president of special projects and Dr. Dennie V. Jones, UK medical oncologist. In addition, Jones formally announced his appointment as the new deputy director of UK Markey Cancer and medical director of the Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network. Jones, who is also a professor of internal medicine in the UK College of Medicine, spoke about his role in providing leadership to the formal affiliate network of hospitals in Central and Eastern Kentucky to collaborate and provide state-of-the-art oncology care and associated programs in close partnership with the Markey Cancer Center.
SCR is proud to be a part of the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network to benefit patients in eastern KY. This affiliation enhances SCR's ability to respond to cancer needs in our region by providing higher levels of expertise and allowing cancer patients to receive advanced treatment options without having to drive a long distance from their homes.
