St. Claire HealthCare Receives Winter Essentials for Patients in Need

Winter is challenging for many as we face harsh weather and low temperatures. St. Claire HealthCare’s Social Services department strives to help meet patients’ basic needs. This time of year there is significant demand for winter essentials such as coats, hats, gloves, and blankets.

In December, the St. Claire HealthCare Foundation received numerous coat donations from charitable individuals in the community and the surrounding area. The Morehead Mavericks youth baseball team donated nearly 100 coats from their winter clothes drive. Additionally, Drew Noble, a junior at Lewis County High School, donated 25 coats he collected from his peers, teachers, and other community members.

“We are so grateful to the individuals who collected these items for our patients. During the winter months, it’s not uncommon for us to distribute 50 coats a month to individuals who would be leaving the hospital without one,” said Amanda Skaggs, SCH Manager of Social Services. “Winter is an extremely difficult time for some individuals in need in our community and the gratitude they express when receiving a warm coat is tremendous. It’s a privilege to be able to offer these patients some comfort.”
