UK St. Claire Receives Awards at Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet

UK St. Claire was recognized during the annual Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce banquet with the Community Partnership Award and Large Business of the Year Award. In addition, KaSandra Hanshaw, Assistant Director of the Northeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (AHEC), was presented with the President’s Award.

“It is a great honor to be recognized with these awards,” said Donald H. Lloyd, II, President/CEO of SCH. “St. Claire has been proud to be a part of this community and to serve and support the region's people for the past sixty years. We look forward to the future opportunities that will allow us to continue our mission to proclaim God’s goodness through a healing ministry to the people of Eastern Kentucky.”

The Community Partnership Award recognizes the dedication of organizations to work together and collaborate to make a positive impact within their community. SCH and Edgewater Recovery partnered to support patients in addiction recovery. In a Peer Support Program, patients at SCH who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction are teamed up with a Peer Support Specialist at Edgewater to help them achieve sustained recovery through shared, lived, or common experiences with substance use, addiction, or mental health conditions.

The Peer Support Program was only the first phase of the partnership between SHC and Edgewater. A second-chance employment opportunity has been established for people in recovery, which includes access to higher education and job training provided by SCH.

SCH was also honored with the Large Business of the Year Award for its investments in the new Urgent Care Center at Hampton Way in Morehead. The new $4 million clinic has given the people of Morehead and Eastern Kentucky greater access to healthcare. The clinic created close to 30 new jobs for the community as well.

The new Urgent Care Clinic is open seven days a week and treats common illnesses, mild to moderate injuries, and offers preventative care including physicals and vaccinations. It also features an on-site lab and radiology services to diagnose, treat, and manage urgent medical conditions and minor injuries. The new clinic also houses SCH’s first occupational medicine practice designed to meet the needs of businesses and industries with preventative care and treatment for work-related injuries.

Additionally, SCH was proud to have a member of its team, KaSandra Hanshaw, receive special recognition. Hanshaw was presented with the President's Award for her tireless efforts over the past four years with the Young Professional Association and Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce.
