St. Claire HealthCare Welcomes Melanie Abner, MSN, CNM, FNP-C, IBCLC, to Its Medical Staff

St. Claire HealthCare is proud to welcome Melanie Abner, MSN, CNM, FNP-C, IBCLC, to its medical staff. Abner recently joined the team at UK Morehead Women’s HealthCare as a nurse midwife and is now accepting new patients.

“Obstetrics has been my love from the start,” said Abner. “I have always been passionate about taking care of moms and babies and that is what inspired me to become a midwife.”

As a midwife, Abner will be able to offer family planning and preconception care, perform prenatal exams and order tests, help make birth plans, and more. She will also be able to help with diet and exercise plans and offer education on pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care.

“Nurse midwives are known for providing holistic and lower intervention care if that’s what is desired by the patient,” she said. “My goal is to provide a safe space for all women where they can address their unique healthcare needs.”

A native of Louisville, Abner received her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner from Spalding University in 2015. She went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing, Certified Nurse Midwife from Frontier Nursing University in 2017.

Abner has over 20 years of experience that she is excited to share with patients throughout the region.
