SCH, MCTC Announce $150k Scholarship Program

UK St. Claire, in partnership with Maysville Community and Technical College is pleased to announce a $150,000 scholarship opportunity benefitting MCTC students.

The St. Claire Academic-Practice Scholarship Program aims to remove economic barriers to education, by providing students with access to scholarship dollars that will help close the gap between their cost of attendance and other forms of financial aid.

“Wonderful community partners like UK St. Claire are crucial to the education of our students,” said Dr. Laura McCullough, MCTC President/CEO. “This opportunity will allow our students to receive hands-on training in their field, which only adds to their employability, while simultaneously removing potential economic barriers they face as they navigate their educational journey at MCTC.”

Students enrolled in the program may use scholarship dollars to cover additional needs, such as tuition, books, and fees. Additional scholarship opportunities are also available annually through the MCTC Foundation and the UK St. Claire Foundation.

This partnership will provide a continuous stream of specialized employees to meet the workforce needs of UK St. Claire in both clinical and non-clinical areas.

“The UK St. Claire Academic-Practice Scholarship is an opportunity for UK St. Claire to support the amazing work of Maysville Community and Technical College by expanding access to quality education and meaningful employment even further,” said Donald H. Lloyd II, President/CEO of UK St. Claire. “This program provides innovative training opportunities for MCTC students and establishes a recruitment pipeline of qualified graduates prepared to enter the workforce and fulfill SCH’s workforce demands across the health system in both clinical and nonclinical programs.”

As a part of the partnership, students enrolled in the program will become part-time employees at UK St. Claire, in the form of an externship, internship, or assistantship, but they will be directly related to the student’s course of study.

Upon acceptance into the program, participants agree to work full-time at UK St. Claire for a period of years post-graduation, depending on their career path.

Eligible programs to participate in the scholarship opportunity are Nursing, Medical Lab Tech, Emergency Medical Services, Physical Therapy Assistant, Respiratory Care, Administrative Office Technology, Certified Medical Assistant, Computer and Information Technology, Construction Technology, Culinary Arts, Health Science Technology, Air Conditioning Technology, Medical Information Technology, Nurse Aid, and Phlebotomy.

“I believe that our new partnership with St. Claire will lead to endless possibilities for our students interested in Health Sciences and beyond. I am so grateful for the opportunity to watch it all unfold,” said Emma Lawson, who will serve as a Success Coach through the initiative. “Local partners working to better the lives of others…that’s what it’s all about. Our students deserve the support the Academic-Practice Scholarship program will provide, a pathway from credential to career.”
