UK St. Claire Physicians, Koenig and Ravisankar, Recognized at UK College of Medicine Awards Convocation

The University of Kentucky (UK) College of Medicine recognized two UK St. Claire (SCH) physicians during their 2022 Awards Convocation.

Steven Koenig, MD, SCH Pulmonologist, received the 2021-2022 UK College of Medicine Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP) Distinguished Teaching Award. The Distinguished Teaching Award is presented to a faculty member who illustrates teaching excellence and professionalism and encourages an intellectually stimulating learning environment for students in the RPLP, an educational program housed in Morehead, Kentucky. The RPLP is designed to train future physicians and healthcare leaders to provide high-quality, compassionate care in rural settings.

Dr. Koenig joined the SCH medical staff in 2011. He is Board Certified in sleep medicine, pulmonary diseases, critical care medicine, and internal medicine. Dr. Koenig earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Chicago’s hospital system. He completed his clinical training in sleep medicine at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Punnaivanam Ravisankar, MD, SCH Emergency Physician, was presented with the Community Preceptor Award. This award is given to a UK Graduate Medical Education (GME) program coordinator who consistently demonstrates excellent work in meeting and exceeding the expectations of this role. This individual is invaluable to the program director and learners in the GME program and goes above and beyond to provide high-quality service and support in the role.

Dr. Ravisankar joined the SCH medical staff in 2007. He received his medical degree at the University of Madras, Chennai, India. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has completed several residencies in family medicine, cardiology, and surgery.

Education is essential for a successful future for healthcare. SCH is proud to continue to offer educational opportunities throughout the healthcare system with physicians like Dr. Koenig and Dr. Ravisankar that go above and beyond to share their knowledge with future healthcare professionals.
