St. Claire HealthCare Proudly Welcomes Michael Vega, MD - Medical Director, Anesthesia

St. Claire HealthCare (SCH) is proud to announce the addition of new Medical Director, Anesthesia - Michael Vega, MD.

“Anesthesia runs in my blood. I’m a second-generation anesthesiologist, so I grew up watching my dad in his practice and he was a great example to follow,” said Dr. Vega.

Dr. Vega decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and began his journey into anesthesiology by earning his undergrad degree at Marshall University. He went on to get a master’s degree at Tulane University, then earned his medical degree at Autonomous University of Guadalajara in Mexico. His anesthesiology residency was completed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Dr. Vega was drawn to SCH after being invited to cover shifts for a week at St. Claire Regional Medical Center.

“It already felt like home,” he said. “After working here for a few days, I said ‘you know, this is kind of a special place.’ I knew that when I was asked to start the morning prayer before getting the day started.”

With 26 years of experience and five influential years of working under his father, Dr. Vega hopes to bring growth and new ways to improve patient experience to SCH.

“If you can prevent your patients from having pain, they’re going to be happy,” says Dr. Vega. “That’s why I always love to be challenged in finding new ways to improve their overall experience.”

In his spare time, Dr. Vega enjoys cycling, long drives through the countryside, and spending time with his wife, two sons, and daughter. Moving to the Morehead area, he expressed that he would like to get back to his favorite hobby – farming.
