St. Claire Foundation Awards 2021 Scholarships to Three Kentucky Students

The St. Claire Foundation is excited to announce the scholarship recipients for 2021.

Hannah Clatos of Morehead earned the $1,000 Sister Mary Jeannette Wess Scholarship. Ryan Gibson of Salyersville and Macey Hudson of Somerset received the $1,000 Richard J. Bausch Family Scholarships.

Clatos is pursuing a dual-track degree in Agribusiness and Animal Science at Morehead State University, where she has a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Her goal is to have a career in the education and business aspects of agriculture.

“Healthcare and agriculture are two of the most essential industries that impact every human every day, but many don’t connect the relationship between the two,” said Clatos. “Offering the appropriate education to producers in all areas is crucial because of the impact their decisions can make on consumers and the healthcare industry.”

The Sister Mary Jeannette Wess, SND, Health Education Fund, awarded to Clatos this year, was established in 1995 and is named in honor of St. Claire HealthCare’s third President/CEO. Students entering their junior or senior year of college from the SCH service region may apply for this scholarship.

Gibson and Hudson, recipients of the Richard J. Bausch Family Scholarships, are enrolled to attend the University of Kentucky this fall.

Gibson graduated at the top of his class at Paintsville High School and intends to major in human health sciences at UK.

“Focusing on human health will enable me to explore and study different types of health fields, including audiology, dentistry, pharmacy, or physical therapy,” said Gibson. “I plan to move back to my community and provide health services to low-income families. I see the impact that quality healthcare has had on my county, and I desire to be a part of that.”

Hudson graduated as a 4.0 student from Pulaski County High School. She plans to study in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) field at UK, with a particular interest in chemistry.

“My love and understanding of the elements of the periodic table have led me into this field,” said Hudson. “I am excited to learn of all the ways I can use this degree. The possibilities are nearly endless.”

The Richard J. Bausch Family Scholarship is funded by an endowment that was established in memory of the father of recently retired St. Claire HealthCare Vice President Greg Bausch, PharmD. To qualify for the scholarship, an applicant must be a pre-professional health sciences student and a resident of an Appalachian county.
