St. Claire HealthCare Welcomes Two New Members to Board of Directors

St. Claire HealthCare (SCH) is honored to announce Marie Dennison, MD, and Angela M. Gates, Attorney at Law, have accepted appointments to the SCH Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors of St. Claire HealthCare provides oversight and strategic direction for the health system while honoring St. Claire HealthCare’s mission “To proclaim God’s goodness through a healing ministry to the people of Eastern Kentucky.”

“We are blessed to welcome Dr. Dennison and Ms. Gates to the Board,” said Sr. Marla Monahan, SND, Chair of the St. Claire HealthCare Board of Directors. “We appreciate the commitment these newly-appointed members have made to support St. Claire HealthCare’s mission and advance the growth of our healing ministry in these most uncertain times.”

Marie Dennison, MD, a native of Salyersville, Kentucky, completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of the Cumberlands in 2010, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She went on to earn her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 2014 and completed her residency with the St. Claire HealthCare Family Medicine Residency Program in 2017. Dr. Dennison, a board certified family medicine physician, has been caring for patients at St. Claire Family Medicine – Morehead, Downtown since 2017. In addition to her service to the SCH Board of Directors, Dr. Dennison assists in the training of medical students and residents, serves on multiple hospital committees, and also volunteers with her church.

Angela M. Gates, Attorney at Law, is a partner at Dressman Benzinger LaVelle (DBL Law) where she heads the Banking and Commercial Law Division. DBL Law is the largest Northern Kentucky-based law firm and one of the largest firms in Greater Cincinnati and Louisville. A resident of Edgewood, Kentucky, Gates is a member of the Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, and Cincinnati Bar Associations, as well as CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women). She graduated Cum Laude from Xavier University in 2000 and earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2003. Gates also serves on the Board of Directors for UpSpring and previously served on the Board for the Family Nurturing Center.

Sr. Mary Margaret Droege, SND; O. Thomas Newcomb, III, MD; and Glen Teager each completed their terms of service on the SCH Board of Directors in 2020.

Sr. Droege has served in her most recent tenure on the Board since 2010 as a member of the Quality Management/Credentials/Bylaws and Ethics Committees. Sr. Droege held the position of Director, Mission Integration at St. Claire HealthCare for six years, served as the Board of Directors President from 1986 to 1995, and also chaired SCH’s CEO Search Committee in 1995.

Urologist Dr. O. Thomas Newcomb, III, who joined the St. Claire HealthCare medical staff in 1990, has served the Board as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee since 2011. Dr. Newcomb has also been an active member of the medical staff leadership serving as Medical Staff President in 1996-97 and 2002-03.

Mr. Teager, CFO and Food Service Director, for the Rowan County Board of Education, joined the Board in 2011 and has served as a member and chair of the Finance Committee. Mr. Teager is also a member of the Morehead City Council and is actively involved in multiple community and civic organizations.
