St. Claire Regional Medical Center Welcomes 1st Baby of the New Year

St. Claire Regional Medical Center welcomed the 1st baby of the New Year at 3:33 p.m., on Jan. 1, 2020. Baby boy, Tyler Joe Smith, was born to proud parents Kayla Porter and Tracey Joe Smith of Morehead, weighing in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 19 inches long.

St. Claire celebrated the first baby of the New Year by showering Tyler, Kayla, and Tracey with gifts including a Pack ‘N’ Play, a car seat, newborn pod, a backpack diaper bag, swaddle blankets, and additional basic care items. The family also received a handcrafted wooden rocking horse built and donated by Paul Glesge, a local woodworker and owner of Pony Express Wood Specialties.

When Kayla was asked if she was expecting to have St. Claire’s first baby of the New Year, she responded with a little laugh, “We were hoping to be the first, but it was almost like I was in a race with another mother. And it was a really close race!” The next baby of the New Year baby was born only a couple of hours later.

Tyler was welcomed with love from his parents and extended family, several of which who also have birthdays on the first day of the year! “New Year’s birthdays seem to run in the family,” says father, Tracey Smith.
