Melissa Johnson is a 40-year-old palliative care patient who is bedbound due to functional quadriplegia caused by Cerebral Palsy. St. Claire Regional introduces acute care surgery model

St. Claire Regional (SCR) recently implemented a new acute care surgery model to improve the delivery of inpatient and general surgical care. The new model went into effect May 16 and replaces the traditional model, in which patients had to wait for a busy on-call surgeon who was often with other patients conducting scheduled consults and surgeries.

FDA increases warnings on drugs containing ibuprofen and naproxen

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has strengthened its warnings against NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen (i.e. Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (i.e. Aleve, Naprosyn). While these medicines already warn customers of the risks associated with them on their packaging, the FDA recently determined the drugs might be more risky than previously thought when it comes to increasing the likelihood of heart attack or stroke.
