General Scholarship Opportunities

American Business Systems Scholarship

The American Business Systems Scholarship is awarded to students who are pursuing either a degree in a business or healthcare program and who are from a county within the UKSC service region. This scholarship will be awarded during the recipient’s 4-year college career and will come with an offer of employment from UKSC at the completion of their degree.

Award: $10,000

Requirements:

  • From a county within the UKSC service region
    • Bath, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Lewis, Magoffin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Rowan, or Wolfe
  • Pursuing a business or healthcare Program of study
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Incoming freshman

Richard J. Bausch Family Scholarship

The Richard J. Bausch Family Scholarship is funded by an endowment established in memory of the father of Gregory Bausch, PharmD, former Institutional Director of Medical Education at UK St. Claire.

Award: $1,500

Requirements:

  • From a county within the UKSC service region
    • Bath, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Lewis, Magoffin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Rowan, or Wolfe
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Incoming freshman or upperclassman in the fall semester
  • Pursuing a healthcare field

Dr. Richard W. Carpenter Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Richard W. Carpenter scholarship honors the memory of a long-time St. Claire physician and was established for students in the healthcare field to advance their educational goals and ultimately contribute to our medical community. Dr. Carpenter had a passion for teaching and advancing the quality of the healthcare system in the region.

Award: $1,500

Requirements:

  • From a county within the UKSC service region
    • Bath, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Lewis, Magoffin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Rowan, or Wolfe
  • Incoming freshman in the fall semester
  • Full-time status at an accredited college or university
  • Pursuing a medically related program of study

Bertha Ross Hough Endowment Fund

As a result of the impression healthcare workers made on the Bertha Ross Hough Family, an endowment was established to honor her by assisting individuals aspiring to further their education and careers. The endowment shall serve as a reminder to those who provide minute-to-minute care for patients that no matter the circumstance, what they do matters. Their compassion and care can brighten someone’s day when it is most needed.

Award: $1,500

Requirements:

  • Be a graduate of
    • Bath, Carter, Elliott, Menifee, Morgan, or Rowan Counties in Kentucky OR
    • A GED program and have been residents of one of the above-listed counties for at least four (4) years OR
    • An employee of UK St. Claire and a resident of one of the above counties for at least four (4) years.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Accepted into an accredited college or university
  • Pursuing an associate or bachelor health care program

Alpha M. Hutchinson Memorial Scholarship

The Alpha M. Hutchinson Memorial Scholarship, created in memory of the long-time Chairman and CEO of The Citizens Bank, is awarded to a student from Bath, Rowan, or Morgan Counties majoring in the healthcare field. They must show a strong desire to enter into the medical profession. This scholarship will be awarded to high school seniors and is payable during the recipient’s 4-year college career. The award also comes with an offer of employment from UK St. Claire upon completion of their degree.

Award: $10,000

Requirements:

  • From Bath, Rowan, or Morgan County
  • Graduated with a minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Incoming freshman in the fall semester
  • Full-time status at an accredited college or university
  • Pursuing a medically-related program of study

Menifee County Health Services Scholarship

The Menifee County Health Services Scholarship provides awards to students from Menifee County who are studying in a health-related field.

Award: $1,500

Requirements:

  • From Menifee County
  • Incoming freshman in the fall semester
  • Pursuing a health-related degree
  • Attending an accredited college or university

Damas Ramey Memorial Scholarship Endowment

The Damas Ramey Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established to assist pre-medical and medical students from eastern Kentucky while honoring the memory of the father of UKSC Physician Amanda Ramey, DO.

Award: $10,000

Requirements:

  • Be a graduate of a high school in Eastern Kentucky
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher in the most recent academic year
  • Full-time status at an accredited college or university
  • Have declared a major in pre-medicine or currently be enrolled in medical school

St. Claire Auxiliary Scholarship

The St. Claire Auxiliary established a scholarship endowment to assist students with an interest in medicine and a heart for community service. Preference will be given to students actively volunteering in UKSC volunteer programs with at least 100 hours of service.

Award: $2,000

Requirements:

  • From a county within the UKSC service region
    • Bath, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Lewis, Magoffin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Rowan, or Wolfe
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Incoming freshman in the fall semester
  • Full-time status at an accredited college or university
  • Pursuing a medically related program of study

Stock Yards Bank Healthcare Scholarship

The Stock Yards Bank HealthCare Scholarship is awarded to Rowan or Elliott Counties students majoring in the healthcare field. They must show a strong desire to enter into the medical profession. These $10,000 scholarships will be awarded during the recipient’s 4-year college career and also come with an offer of employment from UKSC upon completion of their degree.

Award: $10,000

Requirements:

  • From Rowan or Elliott County
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Incoming freshman in the fall semester
  • Pursuing a medically-related program of study

The Citizens Bank Healthcare Scholarship

The Citizens Bank Healthcare Scholarship is awarded to a student from Bath, Rowan, or Morgan Counties who is majoring in the healthcare field. They must show a strong desire to enter into the medical profession. This scholarship will be awarded during the recipient’s 4-year college career and also come with an offer of employment from UKSC upon completion of their degree.

Award: $10,000

Requirements:

  • From Bath, Rowan, or Morgan County
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Incoming freshman in the fall semester
  • Full-time status at an accredited college or university
  • Pursuing a medically-related program of study

The Rising Star Healthcare Scholarship

The Rising Star Healthcare Scholarship supports students committed to pursuing healthcare careers and serving rural Kentucky communities upon graduation. This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate both academic excellence and a genuine passion for helping others through healthcare.

Award: $10,000

Special Opportunity: Scholarship recipients will receive an employment offer from UK St. Claire upon degree completion

Requirements:

  • From a county within the UKSC service region
    • Bath, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Lewis, Magoffin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Rowan, or Wolfe County
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Incoming freshman in the fall semester

Sister Mary Jeannette Wess, SND, Scholarship

The Sister Mary Jeannette Wess, SND, Scholarship is named in honor of UKSC's President/CEO from 1983-1995. Before her death in January 1996, she requested that donations be made to establish a scholarship fund to assist students from UKSC's service region who exhibit leadership and service qualities.

Award: $1,500

Requirements:

  • From a county within the UKSC service region
    • Bath, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Lewis, Magoffin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Rowan, or Wolfe
  • A rising college junior or senior
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher at an accredited college or university
