Patients throughout Eastern Kentucky now have greater access to lung cancer diagnosis with the launch of the Ion robotic bronchoscopy platform at UK St. Claire.

Ion robotic bronchoscopy allows physicians to navigate deep into the lung to reach and biopsy suspicious nodules, helping patients get answers without having to travel as far for advanced diagnostic care.

The addition of Ion at UK St. Claire expands access to advanced lung cancer services in the region, helping patients receive a diagnosis and connect to the appropriate next steps in their care.

See the technology firsthand

On Thursday, Aug. 20, employees, providers and community members can get an up-close look at the technology during the Thoracic Oncology Mobile Experience (TOME).

The state-of-the-art traveling semi-truck will feature demonstrations of the same Ion technology now available at UK St. Claire, as well as the da Vinci 5 surgical system, used in minimally invasive robotic surgery. Visitors can also explore a giant inflatable lung, meet members of the UK St. Claire team and learn more about lung cancer screening and early detection.
