Residency Program

The program is tailored to each resident's strengths and weaknesses and is designed to produce a solid foundation in the provision of pharmaceutical care, practice management and essential skills. Upon acceptance to the residency program, each resident will complete a self-assessment form where they identify their strengths and any areas where they want or need more exposure. Utilizing required and elective learning experiences, the program is tailored to each resident. View a sample resident training plan.

Core Rotations

Required, core rotations usually last four to eight weeks and consist of:

  • Practice foundation skills/orientation
  • Internal medicine
  • Family medicine
  • Critical care/ICU
  • Surgery
  • Geriatrics/long-term care
  • Pharmacy management
  • Ambulatory care
  • Infectious disease

Longitudinal learning experiences take place during the year and consist of:

  • Pharmacy leadership
  • Drug information
  • Residency project
  • Pharmacy and therapeutics committee
  • Medication safety
  • Informatics
  • Ambulatory care

Pharmacy Services

Pharmacists at SCH provide quality distributive and clinical pharmaceutical care. As a licensed pharmacist, residents will actively be involved in distributive functions (via their staffing component) and will be expected to gain proficiency in providing clinical services.

Clinical Services at SCH consist of the following:

  • Pharmacokinetic dosing
  • Vancomycin, aminoglycosides, fosphenytoin, etc.
  • Systemic anticoagulation
  • Weight-based IV unfractionated heparin dosing and monitoring
  • Warfarin dosing and monitoring
  • Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) dosing and monitoring
  • Argatroban dosing and monitoring
  • TPN/PPN nutrition support
  • Pain management
  • Medication counseling
  • Medication reconciliation assistance

Dr. Brett McKinney is originally from Morehead, Kentucky where he graduated from Lakeside Christian Academy. Dr. McKinney received his Bachelor of Science with a focus in Biomedical Sciences in 2016 from Morehead State University. Dr. McKinney is a 2020 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. His professional interests are infectious disease and critical care and personal interests include spending time with family, golfing, fishing, and UK athletics.

Megan SampleMegan Sample, PharmD

Dr. Megan Sample is originally from Elkhart, IN. She completed her Bachelor of Science with a focus in Biology in 2018 from the University of Kentucky and graduated from University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 2023. Dr. Sample’s professional interests are emergency medicine and critical care. Her personal interests include going to Chicago Cubs games, traveling, playing with her dogs Katy and Bryzzo, and spending time with her family and friends.

Dr. Rice’s professional interest include critical care and ambulatory care. Her personal interest include spending time with friends and family, traveling, and playing with her goldendoodle, Piper. Dr. Katherine Watson is originally from Barboursville, WV. She completed her undergraduate coursework at Marshall University and graduated from Marshall University School of Pharmacy in 2022. Her professional interests include ambulatory care and internal medicine. Her personal interests include playing with her dog Buster, going for walks, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family. Amanda LewisAmanda Lewis, PharmD

Dr. Amanda Lewis graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 2018 and began working for St. Claire shortly afterward. Since she grew up in northeastern KY, and attended Morehead State University for undergrad, she always felt St. Claire was a perfect fit for her. Dr. Lewis enjoys playing with her two year old son, crafting and watching Netflix documentaries. We would like to congratulate Dr. Amanda Lewis on accepting a position as Assistant Director of Pharmacy at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Kacee Hardeman aboard as a clinical pharmacist at St. Claire HealthCare. Dr. Kacee Hardeman graduated from Morehead State University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science with a focus in Biomedical Sciences. She is a 2021 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and her professional interests include ambulatory care and psychiatry. Dr. Hardeman’s personal interests include spending time with family, biking, going to concerts and amusement parks, and watching Netflix.

Dr. Kaitlyn Calhoun joins St. Claire HealthCare after graduating from the Appalachian College of Pharmacy in Oakwood, Virginia in 2021. Originally from Hindman, Kentucky, she completed her pre-pharmacy coursework at Alice Lloyd College where she majored in Biology. Dr. Calhoun’s professional interests include critical care and infectious disease while her personal interests consist of spending time with her cat Mya, listening to true crime podcasts, and traveling to new places. We would like to congratulate Dr. Kaitlyn Calhoun on accepting a position as a clinical pharmacist at Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Ashley studied Human Health Sciences for three years at the University of Kentucky before starting pharmacy school. Dr. Ashley is a 2020 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. His professional interest is ambulatory care and personal interests include golfing, skiing, and UK athletics. Dr. Mollie Kilgallin is originally from Camp Dix, Kentucky where she graduated from Lewis County High School. She studied Chemistry and Public Health with an Epidemiology focus for two years at the University of Kentucky before starting pharmacy school. Dr. Kilgallin is a 2020 graduate from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in May of 2020. Her professional interest is oncology and personal interests include spending time with family, kayaking, going to concerts, cheering for the CATS(!) and baking. Following her graduation, Dr. Mollie Kilgallin accepted a pharmacist position at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Originally from Winchester, Kentucky, she completed her pre-pharmacy coursework at Eastern Kentucky University. Dr. Craycraft’s professional interests include critical care and emergency medicine. Caitlin Sinclair, PharmD

Joined St. Claire HealthCare after graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in May 2016. Originally from Versailles, Kentucky, she completed her pre-pharmacy coursework at Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Dr. Sinclair Guerin's professional interests include infectious disease and critical care. Her personal hobbies are hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities. She also enjoys cooking and trying new recipes. Dr. Sinclair Guerin is currently Pharmacy Operations Manager and a PGY1 pharmacy residency preceptor at St. Claire HealthCare.

Brook WalshBrook Walsh, PharmD

Joined St. Claire HealthCare after graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in May 2016. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, he began his pre-pharmacy studies at Wayne State University before transferring to the University of Kentucky, where he completed the remainder of his undergraduate coursework. Dr. Walsh's professional interests include anticoagulation, cardiology, toxicology, critical care and emergency medicine. His personal hobbies include creative writing, kayaking, traveling and backpacking.
