Vein Therapy

VEIN THERAPY VASCULAR Lab TREATMENTS

Varicose veins are a common vascular condition that affects millions of people worldwide.

While they are often perceived as a cosmetic concern, varicose veins can also lead to discomfort and, in some cases, serious health issues. Understanding the causes, symptoms, and available treatment options can help individuals make informed decisions about managing this condition effectively.

What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted, and often bulging veins that commonly appear in the legs and feet. They occur when the one-way valves within the veins fail to function properly, causing blood to pool and the veins to stretch and become visible through the skin. Several factors can contribute to the development of varicose veins, including age, family history, prolonged standing or sitting, pregnancy, and obesity.

Varicose veins may present a range of symptoms, including:

  • Visible twisted and bulging veins on the legs or feet.
  • Aching, throbbing, or heaviness in the legs.
  • Swelling, especially after prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
  • Itching or a feeling of burning around the affected veins.
  • Leg cramps, particularly during the night.

Treatment Options

While varicose veins are a common condition, they should not be ignored. Early intervention and appropriate treatment can help manage symptoms, prevent complications, and improve overall quality of life. Several treatment options are available to manage varicose veins, depending on the severity and individual circumstances.

Lifestyle Changes

Lifestyle changes such as maintaining a healthy weight, regular exercise, elevating the legs, and avoiding prolonged periods of standing or sitting can help alleviate symptoms and prevent the progression of varicose veins. Wearing compression stockings can also improve circulation and relieve discomfort caused by varicose veins.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment commonly used to improve the appearance of varicose veins and spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a special solution, called a sclerosing agent directly into the affected veins. The solution irritates the lining of the veins causing them to collapse and fade over time.

Radiofrequency Ablation

The Radiofrequency Ablation (RF) system is a minimally invasive varicose vein treatment procedure that uses radiofrequency energy (electricity) to heat, collapse, and seal off the targeted blood vessels.

Micro-Phlebectomy

Micro-phlebectomy, also known as ambulatory phlebectomy, is a method of removing varicose veins on the surface of the legs. It is done in the office under local anesthesia or an operating room. This procedure involves making tiny punctures or incisions through which the varicose veins are removed with a special hook type surgical instrument.
