3D Mammograms Coming in Spring 2024!
Preventative and diagnostic mammograms are performed at the Women's Imaging Center, conveniently located on the 1st floor of St. Claire Regional Medical Center. When abnormalities are detected, our team of radiologists utilizes some of the latest technology in breast ultrasound and breast MRI, for further evaluation if indicated.
High-Risk Breast Clinic
Patients at high risk for developing breast cancer, including those with dense breasts, a family history of breast cancer, or those with a history of suspicious changes in the breast tissue, are closely monitored in St. Claire’s high-risk breast clinic. Our specialists create a personalized risk reduction plan that may include additional screenings or other preventative options such as prophylactic mastectomy.
Priority Surgical Consultations
While not every woman chooses to have surgery, it is the most frequent form of initial treatment. Newly diagnosed breast cancer patients are given priority scheduling with SCH's breast surgeon Amy Tefft, MD, who will help patients find answers and peace of mind with their treatment options.
Breast Conservation Therapy
At St. Claire, our team utilizes the least-invasive, breast-conserving options possible when removing breast cancer. Sometimes called lumpectomy or partial mastectomy, breast-conserving surgery allows the patient to keep as much of the breast as possible. Our surgeons also utilize advanced clip localizer techniques that limit the amount of healthy tissue removed during surgery.
Reconstructive Procedures
The loss of one or both breasts can cause emotional trauma and distress for some women. Breast reconstruction can promote emotional healing by improving self-image and restoring confidence. Patients are encouraged to schedule a consultation with Evan Moore, MD, SCH's plastic/reconstructive surgeon, to explore all their options.
Access to the Latest Treatments
Treating breast cancer may include a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, and systemic drug therapy (chemotherapy, hormone therapy, etc.). St. Claire HealthCare’s oncology team creates a personalized care plan for each patient’s cancer journey. As a member of the Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network, our patients have access to the latest, most up-to-date treatments without having to travel outside the area.
