Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
St. Claire Advanced Wound Care offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for the treatment of certain chronic non-healing wounds. HBOT is indicated for about 20 percent of wound care patients. The therapy is a noninvasive, proven treatment that allows patients to breathe 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream, accelerating healing by:
- Promoting new blood vessels
- Decreasing swelling and inflammation
- Improving circulation
- Increasing the body's ability to fight infection
- Clearing out toxins and metabolic waste products
The average healing plan involves daily treatment lasting between 60 to 90 minutes, five days a week, for four to six weeks. During treatment, patients may watch TV or sleep to help make their experience more comfortable.
