Medical Lab Technician
Education:Associates Degree in Laboratory Science.
Experience: Experience is preferred, but not required.
Licensure/Certifications: Certification with American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or must be registry eligible (must obtain within 1 year in position).
The role of the Medical Laboratory Technician is to evaluate, assist and perform pre-analytical functions required to obtain optimum samples for laboratory analysis, perform analytical procedures in Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank Bacteriology, Serology and Urinalysis, and coordinate post-analytical laboratory functions such as report routing, reporting critical laboratory values etc. The Medical Laboratory Technician is under the technical direction of the Laboratory Technical Directors, Director of Diagnostic Services and the Laboratory Section Managers. Medical direction is provided by the Medical Director of the Clinical Laboratory and other clinical and anatomic pathologists. The Medical Laboratory Technicians work with physicians, nurses and other hospital personnel to perform tasks necessary for the care of hospital, clinic and outpatient, and in support of St. Claire HealthCare’s mission.
