SCR Laboratory offers state-of-the art comprehensive clinical and anatomical testing service for inpatients and outpatients.
SCR Laboratory is staffed by board-certified Pathologists. Technical staff includes Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Histologists and Cytotechnologists registered through American Medical Society of Clinical Pathology.

SCR Laboratory performs approximately 1 million annual tests, specializing in the following areas:
Hematology is the study of blood, the blood-forming organs, and blood diseases. Hematology includes the study of etiology, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of blood disease.
– Clinical chemistry is the science of chemical analysis of blood, urine & other body fluids to help in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This area includes the testing such as basic and comprehensive metabolic panels, and other panels such as thyroid, renal, liver, lipids, cardiac, tumor markers and anemia.
Blood Bank (AABB certified)
– perform testing to determine the blood type of patients and to identify compatible blood products for blood transfusions, along with a battery of tests (e.g. disease) and treatments (e.g. leukocyte filtration) to ensure and enhance quality. Approximately 2000 blood products are transfused annually. All blood products are obtained from Kentucky Blood Center ( KBC) in Lexington, Ky.
Clinical microbiology includes routine isolation and identifications of pathogens, antibiotics susceptibility testing, DNA amplification testing for chlamydia and GC.
Pathology & Cytology –
The St. Claire Regional Medical Center Pathology and Cytology Departments provide a wide array of comprehensive services. The pathology service is involved in the diagnosis of diseases through the examination of tissue biopsies as well as organs resected in surgery. The cytology service provides diagnoses on both gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens. In addition on site evaluation of biopsy material obtained within the operating room as well as by CT or Ultrasound is also offered.
Occupational Drug screens –
Maintains and performs drug screening for numerous companies including random selection of employees for testing. Collections for all companies as long as they supply their own chain of custody forms. Department of Transportation (DOT) collection procedures Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Certified Medical Review officer (MRO)
Community Health Screening –
SCR Laboratory performs community services featuring cholesterol and glucose screening approximately 1200 per year.

St. Claire Regional laboratory provides services at the main campus 24 hours a day and at the SCR Outpatient Center Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
