St. Claire Foundation 2009 Scholarship Recipients

Two northeast Kentucky students who plan to pursue careers in healthcare are the recipients of 2009 college scholarships from the St. Claire Foundation.  Danielle N. Caudill of Morehead has received the $750 Sister Mary Jeannette Wess, SND, Scholarship.  Tyler Adkins of Ezel is the recipient of the $1,000 Richard J. Bausch Family Scholarship.

Caudill is a senior chemistry major at Morehead State University. She aspires to be a pharmacist.  "Pharmacy as a career to me is the perfect balance of being able to study what I'm passionate about and applying that knowledge so that I may have the ability to be a positive influence in the lives of those around me," Caudill said. "With the exponential rise in new diseases and illnesses, people need to be informed that pharmacists are knowledgeable healers."

Established in 1995, the Sister Mary Jeannette Wess, SND, Health Education Fund is named in honor of St. Claire Regional Medical Center's third President/CEO. Students from the SCR service region who are entering at least their junior year of college may apply for this scholarship. "During her tenure at St. Claire Regional, Sister Mary Jeannette was staunchly committed to education," said Roger Russell, SCR Vice President of Development. "This scholarship fund is a legacy to an inspirational leader who was so dedicated to our mission and ministry."

Adkins was Morgan County High School's 2009 valedictorian. He will enter MSU's biology/pre-physical therapy program this fall, with intentions of becoming a physical therapist. "I'd then like to move back to my hometown to either open up my own practice or join one that is already open," Adkins said. "Being an athlete myself, I know the importance of a physical therapist to get athletes ready to play again after injuries."

The Richard J. Bausch Family Scholarship is funded by an endowment established in memory of the father of Gregory Bausch, PharmD, St. Claire Regional Vice President of Regional Affairs. To qualify for the Bausch Family Scholarship, an applicant must be a pre-professional health sciences student enrolled in a community/technical college or university program and a resident of an Appalachian county as defined by the federal government.
