Morehead is located in Rowan County, Kentucky, situated on I-64 in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and nestled in the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Morehead serves as the economic, educational, recreational and cultural hub of the region. The town is home to both a top-ranked university and a comprehensive community and technical college. A combination of local and chain restaurants offer a variety of dining options. Plus, numerous arts and music festivals, including the Cave Run Storytelling Festival and the Art & Eats Festival, draw visitors throughout the year. The area features a low cost of living, low real-estate taxes and a variety of housing opportunities. In addition to established neighborhoods and new housing developments, farmland and rural housing options are available.

Rowan County Schools

Rowan County schools include four elementary schools (PreK-5), one middle school (grades 6-8), and one high school (grades 9-12). Gifted/talented education needs are met in a variety of ways including specialized grouping, enrichment within the regular classroom and advanced placement courses. Private schooling opportunities are also available through three private, parochial schools: Lakeside Christian Academy, Rowan Christian Academy and Farmers Christian Academy.

Morehead State University

Morehead State University has been recognized for 10 consecutive years as one of the top public universities in the South. The University offers over 200 degree programs on the two-year, four-year and graduate levels. The University has an enrollment of over 11,000 students representing 112 Kentucky counties, 43 states and 31 nations. Two-thirds of the faculty hold doctoral degrees and the student/faculty ratio is 16 to 1.

Cave Run Lake

Beautiful Cave Run Lake, an 8,300-acre recreational lake located within minutes of Morehead in the Daniel Boone National Forest, hosts some of the best muskie fishing in the United States. The lake has two campgrounds with nearly 400 campsites for both RV and tent camping. Twelve boat ramps are located on the lake and hiking trails provide miles of exploration. Enthusiasts return time and time again to this exciting yet relaxing environment offering fun-filled adventures to those of all ages.
