   The Sisters of Notre Dame, both the Namur and Coesfeld communities, continue to live the spirit of Julie Billiart. This spirit is captured in “How good is the good God,” the phrase Julie used most frequently.
   The sunflower also has special meaning for Sisters of Notre Dame. In one of her letters, Julie said that just as the sunflower always turns toward the sun, so we should always keep focused on God.

Sisters of Notre Dame

Sisters Come to St. Claire

   On April 2, 1963, the first sisters arrived in Morehead. The sisters served as administrator, lab tech, nurse, and other needed positions.
   Sisters of Notre Dame who have served as Administrator at St. Claire are the following:

Sr. Mary Joell Overman, SND (1969-1983),

Sr. Mary Edwin Paetzold, SND (1963-1969),

Sr. Mary Jeannette Wess, SND (1983-1995).

   Sisters of Notre Dame continue to serve in various positions at St. Claire. Sisters also serve on the Board of Directors, Board committees, and the Foundation Board.
   St. Claire continues to live up to the dream of Dr. Louise: “I want a good hospital!” The staff, physicians, and volunteers continue to live the mission of proclaiming God’s goodness through a healing ministry to the people of Eastern Kentucky. People continue to be the center of everything we do.
