During her tenure, Sr. Mary Jeannette was recognized by the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center for her valuable contributions to the organization and development of AHEC, a program that was pivotal in encouraging new healthcare professionals to locate their practices in rural, underserved areas. St. Claire continues to be recognized for its commitment to education and the establishment of unique and exceptional learning opportunities for future health professionals.
Sr. Mary Jeannette was loved and respected by fellow professionals, the community, the employees, and the medical staff. The Sr. Mary Jeannette Wess, S.N.D. Education Fund is a legacy to the inspirational leader who was dedicated to a Christian healing ministry.
Fourteen students have been awarded Sister Mary Jeannette Wess, S.N.D. Scholarships since the program began in 1996. Using only the interest from the Fund, $7,500 has been awarded. As the fund grows, the scholarship program will be expanded and community health education and screening services will be added.
Even after her death in 1996, Sr. Mary Jeannette Wess, S.N.D. continues to provide a tradition of excellence in education, a cornerstone of the Sisters of Notre Dame.
