About the Area Morehead is located in Rowan County, Kentucky, situated on I-64, midway between Lexington (64 miles) and Ashland (58 miles) in eastern Kentucky. The climate is generally moderate, rarely dropping below 20 degrees in the winter or rising above 90 degrees in the summer. Beautiful Cave Run Lake, an 8,300-acre lake located near Morehead in the Daniel Boone National Forest, hosts some of the best muskie-fishing in America.
