St. Claire Regional Proudly Announces the Addition of Steven M. Koenig, M.D. – Pulmonologist

St. Claire Regional Medical Center (SCR) is pleased to welcome Steven M. Koenig, M.D, FCCP, FAASM.  Dr. Koenig is Board Certified in sleep medicine, pulmonary diseases, critical care medicine and internal medicine. He will begin seeing patients at SCR's Morehead Medical Specialists' location on August 1. 

Dr. Koenig earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.  He completed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary & critical care fellowship at the University of Chicago's Hospital system.  He completed his clinical training in sleep medicine at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Koenig and his wife, Tippie, look forward to making Morehead their new home.  "We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of kindness, warmth and hospitality extended to us during our visits to Morehead and St. Claire Regional Medical Center, and can't wait to become part of this wonderful community," states Dr. Koenig and Tippie. 

Dr. Koenig is the oldest of three boys and the son of a pathologist who immigrated to the United States from Germany in the late 1950's. Dr. Koenig grew up in the small city of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, an old mining town in the anthracite coal region of the state, where his parents still reside. He met his wife, Tippie, while at the University of Pennsylvania, where she received her master's degree in social work. They have 3 wonderful children: Corinne, Jessica and Michael. Corinne, age 26, earned a master's degree in higher education from Columbia

University in New York City and is presently an academic advisor at New York University. 

Jessica, age 24, received her master's degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and is presently the Social Services coordinator at Westminster

Canterbury in Charlottesville, Virginia. Michael, age 20, is a rising junior at the University of Virginia, where he is premed and majoring in Chemistry.

Family is very important to the Koenigs as they have focused their lives on their children's activities and education. They are a very close-knit family who enjoys travelling and a variety of sports and outdoor activities, including volleyball, basketball, hiking, biking, water sports, golf and tennis. Dr. Koenig and Tippie are active members in their local Catholic church.
